Meet Tim Carroll, Managing Partner

Over his 33 year career with the Department of Justice, Tim (he/him) has skillfully handled a wide range of serious and complex workplace investigations across a broad range of areas. He was the Manager of Investigations with the provincial 'Compliance and Internal Investigations Unit' for two years. Prior to establishing AWI, Tim served with distinction as an Inspector with Nova Scotia Correctional Services.

Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a Criminology Certificate from Saint Mary’s University.

Tim is a certified Forensic Interviewer, trained at the Atlantic Police Academy, and has earned Workplace Investigation certifications from both Rubin Thomlinson and the University of New Brunswick.

 

An active member of the Association of Workplace Investigators,
Tim brings a personal touch and expert insight to every case he handles.

Meet Wayne Horner, Senior Advisor

Wayne (he/him) brings over 35 years of public service experience from the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, where he specialized in complex internal investigations, policy development, and compliance auditing. He served as Manager of Compliance and Internal Investigations, handling a wide range of incidents and allegations of misconduct. Later, as Manager of Policy and Program Services, he continued to lead investigations, mentor staff investigators, and develop comprehensive compliance tools.

Wayne has served for two years as an Investigator with AWI and also brings foundational experience from his time in Community Corrections, including as a Senior Probation Officer.

Wayne holds a Master of Education in Counselling from Acadia University and a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s University.

He is trained in Forensic Interviewing through the Atlantic Police Academy and holds both Basic and Advanced Workplace Investigation Techniques certifications from Rubin Thomlinson. Wayne’s extensive background in policy and investigations provides a comprehensive and objective approach to every file.

Meet Tara C. Potter, Advisor

Tara (she/her) brings extensive experience in investigations, auditing, and compliance from her career with the Province of Nova Scotia. She served as an Investigator with the Department of Justice, Compliance and Internal Investigation Services (CIIS), where she conducted objective and factual investigations, interviewed staff and members of the public, and delivered concise, evidence-based reports to senior management.
 

Tara’s expertise is further strengthened by four years as an Internal Auditor for the province, specializing in developing risk assessments, evaluating policy compliance, and testing internal controls. Her management roles, including at the Department of Justice, involved handling HR matters, resolving escalated issues, and implementing new policies and processes.
 

Tara is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA) and holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Dalhousie University. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Acadia University.
 

Trained in Forensic Interviewing and Statement Analysis from the Atlantic Police Academy, Tara also holds a Certificate in Managing Conflict. Her unique blend of investigative, financial, and psychological expertise allows her to bring a meticulous and comprehensive perspective to every case.
